2016 Pong Beneficiary: Destiny Rescue

(Funding Recipient since 2014)

Location: Chiang Rai, Thailand

Organisation Description: Destiny Rescue focuses on freeing children from the sex trade in SE Asia and then assisting rescued children with counseling, care, education and training that leads to sustainable employment.

Project Focus: Prevention, Aftercare

Project Description: The 2016 Pong is partnering with Destiny Rescue by supporting the operating costs of their prevention home in Chiang Rai, Thailand. While Destiny Rescue’s prevention program is largely community based, providing a way for children who are identified as being at risk of being sexually exploited or trafficked to live safely at home, caseworkers often identify children whose home and/or community is unsafe. The prevention home provides a safe, loving and supportive environment for at-risk children to live while they finish their education. Destiny Rescue also work with the children, and their families where possible, to educate them about child sexual slavery and trafficking, decreasing the risk of the children being sexually exploited or trafficked.

Comment from Ping Pong-A-Thon Director: “We can never under-estimate the impact that being released from the trauma and horror of sexual exploitation can have on a young life. Every child deserves to live in an environment where they are able to flourish. We are thankful for the opportunity to enable twenty children to have that opportunity in partnership with Destiny Rescue’.
