2016 Pong Beneficiary: The Sold Project
Location: Chiang Rai, Thailand
Organisation Description: The Sold Project prevents child prostitution through education by providing scholarships and resources to children at risk.
Project Focus: Prevention & Education
Project Description: Sold work in communities where there has been a generational problem with trafficking. This project currently sees 140 children, teenagers and young adults who are at high-risk of being trafficked or exploited receiving educational scholarships. Without Sold’s scholarship, mentorship, after school programs and community development initiatives, many of these students would have dropped out of school, moved to the cities and been highly vulnerable to exploitation. School drop-out rates have fallen from 60% to 6.5% in the communities where SOLD are working. The 2016 Pong will partner with The Sold Project by covering 25% of their Core Program costs in 2017. Funding covers several staff wages and all other costs associated with Sold’s work on the ground.
Comment from Ping Pong-A-Thon Director: ‘SOLD is unashamedly prevention focused. The quality of their work is second to none and the communities they are working in are being transformed’.
